The Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is a World Bank funded Centre. It is involved in human resource development and research activities in Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology. It plans to secure the services of an Information and Communication Technology Officer, who shall carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.
The ICT officer shall be expected, under the directive of the Centre Leader, to:
1. Set-up, develop, maintain and regularly update Centre’s websites and postings
2. Offer technical support to Centre’s staff and troubleshoot computer problems
3. Co-ordinate of Centre’s IT support through an IT Help Desk which assists students and staff to make best use of the Centre's ICT environment;
4. Manage Centre’s hardware and software purchasing arrangements, and information on technology hardware, software and networking facilities required to satisfy administrative, teaching and learning and research requirements in in the Centre;
5. Ensure staff and students associated with the Centre use ICT services in a manner consistent with the University's facilities policy and related guidelines;
6. Develop and manage systems which support the Centre’s research management and research education processes;
7. Support IT systems that facilitates Centre's core administrative processes, including student information system, human resource management system, data collation, storage and retrieval and the finance system;
8. Identifies and manages ICT based risks and disaster recovery planning
9. Develop, maintain and communicate policies, procedures and guidelines for the use of information technology within the Centre.
10. Ensure preparation and submission of IT reports
Applicant for the position shall be required to possess the following qualifications:
1. A degree in computer science or information technology related field
2. A minimum of five years working experience
3. Experience in developing plan and analysis.
4. Hands on experience with computer networks, network administration and installation
5. Fluency in written and spoken English
6. String interpersonal skills and resourcefulness
The appointment which shall be a full time contract engagement, will be for an initial provisional period of six (6) months, after which based on satisfactory performance/assessment, be confirmed for two years. Notice of disengagement or non-renewal of appointment shall be by a one month notice by any of the party or as may be mutually agreed by the two parties. Appointment shall be subject to renewal based on the decision of the management of the Centre. The Officer shall be directly responsible to the Centre Leader and the Management Committee of the Centre.
Salary and allowances which is negotiable, shall be in conformity with exiting salary structure in existing Federal Government Parastatals and Agencies.
